Stories from the Zines!
It's quite inconvenient to bring the red crate to school every day, so we're going to put some of the best stories from the Dessert Detective series up here!
The Dessert Detectives Book #2: The No-Name Notebook
Original text: Dome
Typed out: Skyla
First-person perspective: Dome
One day, during recess, I was playing Tag with Sponge and Pudding, and Sponge found a notebook on the floor. "Oh!" she exclaimed.
I leafed through the pages. The words were written very messily on most of them. So I thought it must belong to a boy. (Here's a little tip for you: if you ever find an anonymous notebook lying around, try finding the owner by recognizing the handwriting!)
We decided to do an interview. "Who's notebook is this?!" Pudding hollered, causing everyone on the playground to turn to us. Peter shook his head. "It's not mine."
Soph, a Gossip Girl, added, "Or mine!" From behind the crowd, Mushy stepped out. "Let me see. I think I know whose it is!"
I handed the book to Mushy. "Do you know who the owner is, then?" I asked after he flipped through it. "No, I'm sorry," he apologized. "But we can always ask Pencil! Let's go!"
All of us thought it was a good idea. Pencil was great at identifying handwriting! We stopped by class 3E. "Hi!" we chorused. Pencil saw us, waved, and came over. "What's the matter?" We gave him the book. He looked through it. "So, do you know who's it is?' Sponge asked. "Hmmm." Pencil said thoughtfully.
"Wait!" Mushy called out. "I think I lost my notebook!" He snatched the notebook from Pencil and examined it again. "Yes, it's mine."
Sponge widened her eyes. "Your handwriting's that bad?!"
Well, mystery solved. After that, Sponge made Mushy practice his handwriting every day. "Oh, please. Just a hundred words!" she sighed. "And write it neater!" Mushy rolled his eyes. "I'm trying!"
That's the only thing I don't really like about Sponge: she can be very bossy!
The Dessert Detectives Book #3: Lizard on the Loose!
Original Text: Dome
Typed out: Skyla
First person perspective: Dome
It was Pet Day, and everyone had to bring their pet to school. I brought my lizard, Leopard; Pudding brought her bunny, Carrot; and Sponge brought her dog, Eddie.
Slice, the class meanie, also had a pet dog. "Hey, lizard freak!" she jeered to me. She was holding a poodle by a leash behind her. "Meet my poodle, Paris!"
I was really lucky that Paris was on a leash then. Phew.
Then something strange happened. When I put Leopard's cage onto the table of pets, the cage was EMPTY! "Oh no!"
I went off to tell my friends, the Dessert Detectives. "WHAT?" Pudding gasped. "You lost your lizard?! Really?!" Sponge commented in disbelief.
"Yes, and I used up all my allowance on it!" I told them.
Pudding and Sponge helped me look around. "Leopard, come out! Who's a good boy?" Pudding called. Slice and the Gossip Girls shot us looks. "He's not a dog, Pudding!" I sighed.
Just then, our teacher came in. "Hi everyone! How are your pets?"
"Umm...." I couldn't answer.
Fortunately, Sponge saved the day! "Miss, can I go first?" she asked, dragging Eddie over with her leash. "Certainly!" the teacher said.
So whilst Eddie and Sponge were doing the show and tell, Pudding and I looked for Leopard. "Where is he?" Pudding muttered. "I'm tired."
Suddenly, I heard a sharp wail. "AAHHH!" It was Slice, with Leopard on her head!
I walked over and scooped him away. "Wow, she's brave!" someone swooned. I heard Purp say, "Huh, what's so brave about holding a lizard?" "She should've taken better care for it, or else it wouldn't go loose in the classroom, or end up on Slice!" Marigold agreed.
After show and tell, our teacher pulled Slice aside and lectured her for being frightened about a tiny lizard! That's the best part of the day!
